Anime Night

I was up all night watching animes on the swedish public service channel, SVT. They had a pretty good line-up, but unfortunately I didn’t see all of them – I missed the last three. The ones I saw were very good though.

Spirited Away

Spirited Away

They started with spirited away, at 22:30, and unfortunately I misseed the first half hour or so of the movie, which renders you kind of clueless through the rest. The general plot is that a girl and her parents walk into some magic world, and the parents are transformed into pigs. The little girl now tries anything to save her parents before they are turned into bacon. Definitively something you should see. It has also received an Academy Award.

Perfect Blue

Perfect Blue

The second movie to come on was Perfect Blue, which is kind of a thriller. Very good movie about a singer who decides to become an actor. Some fans are not very happy, and she receives threatening letters. Suddenly a lot of people around her get murdered – and she fears that she might be next. She also goes a little psycho with a lot of strange dreams, imaginary visions and similar things. Also worth watching, when you’ve seen it all you’ll think it wasn’t animated.

Anime Runner Kuromi

Funny short about a woman who takes a job as a producer at a studio. Shows how an anime is done and how stressful their work can be. Not great but still fun to watch.

Voices of a Distant Star

Voices of a Distant Star

Short movie about time, love and things like that. Made by a single person, who did it at home on his computer – and I tell you, the quality it way better than some commercial animes. The movie is set in 2046, when ruins have been discovered on mars and humans are being attacked by evil aliens. Mikako Nagamine is drafted for the UN Space Army to help in fighting. As she is taken further and further away from Earth, she keeps contact with her (boy)friend Noboru. Due to her being so far away the messages take longer and longer to reach him. Absolutely a must watch, amazingly well-drawn and a very touching story.
