File sharing is now practically legal in Sweden. A man from Borås was fined 20 000 SEK, around 2 000€, for having shared four MP3’s on DC. Now, since ISP’s by law are forbidden to release information about users and IP addresses for minor crimes (i.e. ones you don’t risk a prison scentence for), the swedish anti-piracy organisation Antipiratbyrån stands helpless. They can no longer gather the information needed to convict file sharers. Rickard Falkvinge, leader of Swedish political party “Piratpartiet“, whose main goal is to legalize file sharing, says that the only thing left to do is to officially legalize file sharing. It’s a win for pirates, but I don’t really know if it’s all for the good. A better solution would be for the giants of the music industry to be less greedy, lower the prices and give more to the actual artists.
File sharing “practically legal”
