Is Google making us dumb?

by Simon Sigurdhsson

Stan Schroeder has an interesting thought in his post from a few days ago. Apparently, Google is making us stupid. I never knew. And I still don’t really think so. You can compare Google to a calculator, a tool that helps us get answers to little problems that we don’t have time or energy to keep in our heads – much like the calculator helps us do the simple maths, so we can worry about the hard stuff. But Stan still has a valid point here. Take James Thomas’ experiment where he tried not to use Google at all for two weeks. Needless to say he thought it was hard. Google has now reached a state which the calculator reached not so long ago; we can get by without it, but it’s a pain. Wether this is a good thing or not, I don’t know. But Google is here to stay.
