Chernobyl: 20th Anniversary on Wednesday

On Wednesday people all over the world will remember the terrible accident in Chernobyl, when the fourth reactor exploded and released an amount of radiation several hundred times greater than that of the atomic bomb dropped in Hiroshima. At Chernobyl.info, a site about the accident and its consequences, a list has been published listing all the activities that have been planned around the world.

Since the core is still burning, a new cover has been planned, to help contain the radiation. The old cover is getting, well, old. The new cover is going to cost a billion dollars, and will be completed in 2009.
